Preceptorship Program
The ACP Phlebology Preceptorship Program matches healthcare providers (trainees) with vein care specialists, allowing providers to receive individual training from phlebologists in a clinical setting. The goal of the program is to enhance providers’ knowledge in specific areas of their choosing. The Preceptorship Program is not a substitute for basic vein care knowledge, nor does it provide any credentials to the trainee, however it does provide an invaluable education opportunity to supplement your knowledge of venous and lymphatic disease care.
Peer-to-peer learning is critical in the medical industry, especially in a specialized field such as vein care. If you’re interested in training with a vein care specialist, you can apply here. If you think you need to start with a basic education of venous disease, explore the courses on the ACP Online Education Center.
Trainees
Eligibility Requirements for Trainees
- Must be licensed to practice medicine or a healthcare provider (such as a practicing nurse or physician’s assistant). If the trainee is a healthcare provider who is not licensed to practice medicine, he/she must be accompanied during the training by a physician who is licensed to practice medicine. The accompanying physician must also complete a Trainee application (including, providing a copy of his or her current medical license, and signing a trainee contract). “2nd Trainee: MD” fees will apply.
- Must make appropriate payment to the ACP headquarters office prior to training taking place
- Will be responsible for all travel costs incurred during training
- Must complete a post-training evaluation and submit within 30 days of training
Trainee Acceptance and Approval Process
- The ACP headquarters office will maintain a list of active preceptors along with a description of what procedures the preceptor teaches. You can search the list by procedure and state by clicking here.
- The applicant will request or download an application form from the ACP headquarters or web site.
- Applicant will submit application to the ACP headquarters.
- ACP staff will ensure the application is complete. Once complete, the questionnaire will be forwarded to the preceptor pre-selected by the trainee (or will work with Preceptorship Committee members to assign a trainee to a preceptor if not selected.)
- The preceptor will conduct a telephone interview with the trainee and will complete an application interview form which will be submitted to the ACP headquarters.
- The preceptor will sign off (in his or her discretion) on the approval or disapproval of the applicant. If approved, the preceptor will indicate (a) if the applicant has accepted the offer for preceptorship training (b) when the training will commence, and (c) the expected date of completion. If not approved, the information will be relayed back to the trainee, allowing them to choose a different preceptor or withdraw their application.
- The ACP headquarters will notify the applicant in writing of their acceptance into the Preceptorship Program. An invoice will be provided which will need to be paid in full at least 10 days before training is to begin.
