2009 UIP Report by ACP President Nick Morrison
During the XVI World Meeting of the International Union of Phlebology (UIP) held in Monaco earlier this month, the ACP made a successful bid to hold the next World UIP Congress in 2013 in Boston. This is a great honor for the ACP, and certainly validates the important strides that have been made in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with venous disease in the U.S. in general, and in the ACP in particular. The scientific quality of the Monaco meeting was outstanding, under the direction of one of the ACP BOD members, JJ Guex and the UIP President, Eberhard Rabe. With presentations from experts in venous and lymphatic disease from all over the world, the attendance at the UIP in Monaco approached 1500. It is the goal of the ACP to make the XVII meeting even larger. The XVII World UIP meeting will be in early September 2013, and will be held conjointly with the ACP Annual Congress for that year.
During the UIP Council meeting in Monaco (the Council is made up of representatives from venous societies around the world), Angelo Scuderi of Brazil was elected to the next Presidential post to begin in 2011 following the European Chapter meeting scheduled in Prague under the direction of Prof. Strejeck of the Czech Republic.
Two important ACP members, John Bergan and BB Lee, finished their non-renewable terms as UIP Vice Presidents. The ACP BOD elected me to be the ACP representative to the UIP Council this year, and I was then elected to one of five Vice Presidential posts for the next four years. It will be an honor to represent the ACP at the UIP, and an even greater honor to serve as Program Chair for the 2013 UIP World Meeting in Boston. I will look forward to enlisting a great deal of organizational help for that meeting so the ACP can present itself as a leader in the world of Phlebology.
The ACP was well represented at the UIP Monaco meeting in a number of sessions including our own ACP Symposium. Taking part in the ACP Symposium were President Nick Morrison; President-Elect John Mauriello; ABPh President and Chairman of ACPF, Steve Zimmet; ACP BOD members, Mel Rosenblatt, JJ Guex, Marlin Schul, Lowell Kabnick, and Diana Neuhardt; ACPF BOD members Pauline Raymond-Martimbeau, Steve Elias, and Joe Zygmunt; and ACP members Terri Morrison, John Bergan, Jean White, and E.J. Sanchez. Other ACP members presenting were, Claudio Allegra, John Barrett, Nisha Bunke, Paolo Casoni, Attilio Cavezzi, Peter Chapman-Smith, Alun Davies, Julio Ferreira, Alessandro Frullini, Jean-Luc Gillet, Mitch Goldman, Clint Hayes, Doug Hill, John Hovorka, Ted King, BB Lee, Mark Meissner, Kasuo Miyake, Kurosh Parsi, Hugo Partsch, Michel Perrin, Paul Pittaluga, Stefano Ricci, Janet Rush, Michele Schadeck, Amanda Shepherd, Charles Stuckey, Paul Thibault, Michael Vasquez, Satish Vayuvegula, Suresh Vedantham, Frederick Vin, Robert Weiss, David Wright, Takashi Yamaki.
